Ne-Maki

Ne-maki is as old as shibori itself, binding small objects into the material being dyed gives us these small "sunburst explosions". Experimenting with different binding materials, different sizes and types of objects allows a variety of effects, but the real art in this technique is deciding where to place the objects in relation to one another and to the size and shape of the piece being dyed.

As with much of the less time consuming shibori techniques, the skill is not in implementing the technique, but in how and where you choose to use it. Technique is not an end in itself, it is a tool for the artist.
