We use a series of natural dyes to achieve a variety of colours. Some of these dyes can produced a range of shades depending on how strong the dye is mixed and more importantly, where in the life cycle of the vat that particular piece is dyed. Sappanwood and Madder for instance produce gorgeous muted colours as the strength of the vat begins to wane. Cutch, on the other hand is a dye that retains its strength for a long time, so the variations in colour are achieved by varying how long the piece is in the vat.

We try all sorts of unusual plant materials as dyes so there will be a changing range of dye types shown here.
