Ori-Nui

Possibly the oldest shibori technique since it is the simplest concept - fold a piece of material and run a line of stitches along the fold. Many variations can be achieved by altering the length of the stitch and the distance from the fold. And, obviously, you don't have to stitch in a straight line.

This technique can also be used create outlines and simple representations of animals, landscapes etc.

As with much of the less time consuming shibori techniques, the skill is not in implementing the technique, but in how and where you choose to use it. Technique is not an end in itself, it is a tool for the artist.
